Women make almost 50% of the total population of the world. They are not in minority so as to require special treatment.

Biologically speaking also, it is a proven fact that female race is superior to male. Because of centuries of discrimination and domination which is done by men over women in which women are suppressed a lot arose the need for empowerment in India.

They are the target of varied types of violence and discriminatory practices done by men all over the world.

India is no different.

The worshiping of female goddesses also giving respect and importance to wives, sisters, mothers and all other female relatives is common practice which is followed in India.

But at the same time, Indians are also famous for treating their women badly both inside and outside their homes.

Women empowerment is understood as giving at least this much power to women so that they can decide for their own lives and encouraging such abilities to grow up in society and could be able to find their best place in the society.

Some of the specific laws for women empowerment in India are:-

The Equal Remuneration Act, 1976.

 

The Dowry Prohibition Act, 1961.

 

The Immoral Traffic (Prevention) Act, 1956.

 

The Maternity Benefit Act, 1961.

Directive principles of State Policy also contains important provisions regarding women empowerment and it is the duty of the government to apply these principles while making laws or formulating any policy.

The fundamental rights, DPSPs and the Preamble and other constitutional provisions had provided many of the special and general safety guards for the welfare of Women’s human rights.
